Opal Students Naturena Football Team Makes History
In a historic moment for Opal Students, the Naturena Football Team has qualified for the University of Johannesburg Promo League for the first time ever! This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of our student-athletes. From gruelling training sessions to intense matches, our football team has shown resilience, determination, and teamwork, qualities that are not only essential on the field but also in all aspects of life.
Behind every successful team is a group of dedicated coaches who provide guidance, support, and mentorship to our athletes. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and recognition to the coaches of the Opal Students Naturena Football Team: Phila Calvin Junior, Nelson Nhlapho, Mthokozisi Thaele, and Songezo Dubula. Your commitment to excellence and your tireless efforts to develop and nurture the talent of our student-athletes have played a crucial role in this historic achievement. Successful Orientation Events
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs Orientation events were held at both Opal Students Primula House and Naturena campuses, setting the stage for an exciting academic year ahead. These events provided an opportunity for new and returning students to familiarize themselves with the campus facilities, meet fellow students and staff, and learn about the various support services and resources available to them. At Naturena, we were honoured to have the support of esteemed Sponsors such as SAICA, Spaza Eats, and ABSA Bank, who provided valuable insights and resources to our students. Similarly, at Primula House, sponsors like Red Bull and Standard Bank, along with healthcare experts Siyanqoba & Shout It Out, contributed to a memorable and informative orientation experience for our students. The success of these events is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our staff, sponsors, and stakeholders, all working together to ensure that our students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed.

The Opal Students X Redbull Brad Binder Watch Party was a thrilling event that brought together students from across our community to celebrate the excitement of motorsport. Held in the past, this unforgettable gathering allowed students to experience the thrill of the track and enjoy the camaraderie of our vibrant community. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who attended and made the event a resounding success. Appreciation for Residence Managers: Our Mother Figures
In the heart of Opal Students’ residences, two remarkable individuals stand as beacons of care and support: Onica Khubeka, overseeing Naturena, and Doricah Khasalela, nurturing Primula House. As Onica gracefully puts it, “Our students aren’t just residents; they’re family. It’s our duty to ensure they feel safe, heard, and supported throughout their journey.” With a compassionate touch, Doricah echoes this sentiment, stating, “Every student who walks through our doors becomes part of a larger community. It’s about fostering connections and creating a home away from home.” Their dedication goes beyond mere management; it embodies a sense of familial warmth and understanding that resonates deeply with each resident.
