
On the 2nd of August 2025, OpaL Students Foundation, in partnership with Bono Property Group, hosted a Fun Walk and Hike at Rietvlei Zoo Farm. The event brought students together for a 10-kilometre walk and hike, promoting physical health and creating a fun and engaging experience for everyone. All students wore white OpaL Students t-shirts, symbolising unity, equality, and a shared identity. To add a playful touch to the day, students also who colourful tutu skirts, reminding everyone that this was a day to enjoy and relax while still being active.













This event reflected key Community Development and Leadership values such as participation, inclusion, and empowerment. By applying the person-centred approach, the event focused on the well-being and growth of each student. The asset-Based Community Development approach was evident in how the organisers used the student’s energy, unity, and willingness to participate as strengths to build a positive and uplifting experience. Through walking together and supporting one another, the students showed leadership, self-discipline, and care for their health values that strengthen both the individual and the broader community. The day was noy only about physical activity but also about creating a strong sense of belonging and building healthy, empowered student community.
